"FIU in the Middle East" Study Abroad Program

The "FIU in the Middle East" study abroad program to Jordan, Israel and Palestine is an intensive 2-week program designed to foster an understanding of Middle East politics and society through the experience of traveling and studying in the region. Open to undergraduate students of all majors, the program takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of the region. By the end of the program, students will be able to identify critical junctures that have shaped the politics and societies of Jordan, Israel and Palestine, and the challenges they face. Students will also develop a more comprehensive understanding of the regions historical, cultural, socio-political, economic and geographical linkages. The course will also discuss the Arab-Israeli conflict and prospects for a lasting peace between sides. The program will include visits to organizations promoting interfaith relations, co-existence and reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians. It will also introduce students to the local languages and amazing cuisine by encouraging them to interact with the local population. By the end of the program, students will have a stronger grasp of the languages and a deeper appreciation of Middle Eastern culture.
