Advancing the Vision
The goal of the Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies is to be an internationally-recognized and independent source of knowledge and information concerning the global Muslim experience. To realize this goal, the center will seek the finest faculty and collaborate with leading institutions studying Islam and the Muslim world.
Our aspiration is to launch interdisciplinary academic programs, including undergraduate and graduate certificate programs, as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Muslim World Studies. We plan to expand course offerings in Muslim World languages; offer international student and faculty exchange programs; host annual conferences addressing current issues and themes; and increase our roster of community lectures and events.
Furthermore, new collaborative projects between faculty and across disciplines will also contribute to the Jaffer Center’s mission. Research findings will not only be disseminated in academic and scholarly venues, but will also be circulated and distributed in relevant policy circles to contribute to national and international policy debates.
To nourish and deepen our relationship with the South Florida Muslim community, we will establish a center advisory board comprising major donors and community leaders. Creating an endowed Chair of Muslim World Studies and conducting an international search for a world-class Executive Director will enable us to secure a Muslim Studies center of excellence for the entire community.
