Message from the Director
The Mohsin and Fauzia Jaffer Center for Muslim World Studies seeks to educate and conduct research on the ever changing dynamics of being Muslim in an increasingly interdependent and changing world. The vast amount of media surrounding the increased violence by non-state actors and governments has created negative stereotypes about Islamic faith that we as a center seek to challenge, while also showing FIU students and the greater Miami community about the different sects within Islam and the contributions Muslims are making within their own communities in different parts of the world.
We aim to not only be an internationally-recognized and independent source of knowledge and information concerning the global Muslim experience, but also a place on campus for Muslim student life and a hub for intellectual and cultural activities for Muslim and non-Muslim students alike. As an anchor institution in South Florida with one of the finest schools of international and public affairs in the nation, FIU has the expertise and diversity needed to address the complex issues facing academic study of Islam and the Muslim diaspora.
We invite you to explore the website and learn more about the center.
