Tunisia’s fragile post-revolution democracy was strengthened by the work of a “Quartet” made up of the Tunisian League of Human Rights, the Tunisian Order of Lawyers, the Tunisian Labor Union, and the Tunisian Trades Association. Mr. Ben Moussa will describe the successful strategies used by the Quartet to mediate between politicians and members of civil society organizations. Join the Initiative for Muslim World Studies for a lecture by Bella Tendler Krieger on "The Nuṣayrī-ʿAlawīs: New Sources, New Insights into Heterodox Islam." The Nuṣayrīs (or ʿAlawites of Syria) are a syncretistic Shiite sect founded in the tenth century. The Nuṣayrīs are some of the only survivors of the heterodox cults of early Islam, and their literature, secretly preserved for the last thousand years, allows unique insight into how these groups functioned and what they actually believed.
